This is one of the numerous quotes by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), considered the greatest English novelist, and whose 200th birthday will be celebrated worldwide on 7th February.

Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities , A Christmas Carol or Great Expectations are some of his novels, which can be touching, humorous, ironical and even critical of the Victorian society, and where London itself is one of his main characters.
